10th June 2022
It has been quite some time since I updated this page with anything other than obits, and to be brutally honest, it has been quite some time since I have felt like updating this page. The last two and a half years have been catastrophic for so many, including the UFO family, that I found it impossible to find anything positive to say, so I just didn’t say anything.
2019 was the year that we lost two UFO alumni, Paul Raymond in April, and Larry Wallis in September, so when 2020 rolled around, I was hoping for a better year. Little did I know…
It started well enough, short tour of the U.S. east coast culminating in the excellent “Rock Legends” cruise, and a full year of dates ahead, but then we all know what came next.
I watched as all our 2020 tour dates were cancelled one by one, initially being rebooked for 2021. Not too bad I thought, 2021 isn’t too far off, and I have plenty here to keep me busy, then I got the news about Paul Chapman’s death. As if this wasn’t bad enough, it was closely followed by the loss of Pete. A double whammy! Being unable to travel and pay my respects in person depressed me greatly, much as I dislike funerals, to lose two close friends and not to be able to say a proper goodbye was hard to bear. Still 2021 was just around the corner and things would be better then, or so I thought.
2021 came and I saw our tour dates fall like dominoes as they were cancelled for a second time due to Covid, some never to return.
Unfortunately, I found all of this difficult to deal with, hence the radio silence, but I am happy to say that I am feeling much more positive now, thanks in part to some intense woodworking therapy - more on that later.
We will soon be heading back out on the road, and I am really looking forward to the upcoming shows. (Click on the photo to see the tourdates). This year is probably going to be the last for UFO, so they will have a special significance. I hope that many of you that have experienced similar circumstances over these last few months will come and join us in celebrating our return to rock and roll.
Love and peace, stay safe.
Andy
